Plano: A Model Program

Practical Parent Education is an organization dedicated to helping parents do their job better. PPE uses its Plano, Texas office to field-test its national programs. Curricula are written, tested and revised in Plano. The Plano office serves as a clearinghouse for nationally renowned speakers, and pilots ideas for support groups, teacher in-services and student sessions. Our family resource center has evolved from a small classroom in a neighborhood church to now encompass a library, playroom, multi-use classroom, conference room, and several offices.

PPE gets its funding from a variety of sources: fundraisers, grants from foundations, gifts from individuals and corporations, and as payment for services such as classes, trainings and memberships. The Plano Independent School District provides office space for PPE and serves as its fiscal agent.

PPE was established at the start of a growth spurt for Plano, and as the community grew from a suburb of 50,000 to today’s sprawling city of 240,000, PPE has changed with it. A young community aged, became increasingly diverse and prided itself on being at the cutting edge in education and quality of life. PPE Plano grew along with it and now offers all services in English and Spanish, and is proactive in meeting the changing needs of a growing community.
